Frequently asked questions
Q: What is the Whiskey Rebellion Trail?
The Whiskey Rebellion Trail is made up of four cities, including Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington and Baltimore, in addition to towns and rural areas in-between. It was created by a group of craft distillers and visitors’ organizations throughout the region to highlight the dynamic contributions of the region to the history of American spirits and the exciting rise of award-winning craft distilleries in the area over the last several years.
Q: How was the trail conceived and developed?
The trail was developed as a collaborative effort among a dozen destination marketing organizations (DMOs), as well as dozens of craft distilleries and cultural institutions throughout the Mid-Atlantic. The trail is governed by an Advisory Committee of funding DMOs and participating distilleries. The three-year development effort was envisioned and led by Meredith Meyer Grelli, co-founder of Wigle Whiskey in Pittsburgh, with early leadership and support from Craig Davis, CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH, as well as partners at Visit Philadelphia, Destination D.C., and the Washington County Chamber of Commerce. Questions about Trail development can be directed to the Advisory Committee Co-Chairs, Meredith Meyer Grelli at firstname.lastname@example.org and Teresa DeFlitch at email@example.com.
Q: How does it work?
On the Whiskey Rebellion Trail website, you can choose from a variety of curated passes that spotlight four regions based on geography and history or choose a comprehensive pass that includes stops in all four regions. Passes are delivered instantly to your phone via text message or email with nothing to download. The message allows you the option of adding the pass to your mobile phone home screen for easy access. Complete your pass by visiting the included distilleries and/or museums.
Q: How do the participating distilleries and museums know I am exploring the trail?
The distilleries and museums are excited to welcome you. Simply show a ticketing agent or an employee your pass and they will redeem it. If you are having trouble redeeming your pass, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: Can I purchase a pass at a distillery or museum?
Passes are available through the Whiskey Rebellion Trail website only. Once you purchase a pass a message will be sent to your phone (via text or email) that will allow you to instantly access the passport. You can then redeem all that is included in your pass by visiting included distilleries or museums and showing the ticketing agent or front of house employee the pass on your phone. Currently, we do not offer a way to print your pass on paper and redeem it.
Q: How much does it cost to participate in the Trail?
Prices range depending on what is offered, but there are passes to fit every budget. Each pass includes savings that are exclusive to the Whiskey Rebellion Trail.
Q: How long does it take to complete a pass?
Passes are divided into one-day, three-day or weekender, and one-year experiences and are designed to be completed within that timeframe. However, you can certainly complete the pass in any way that makes sense for you. Each pass has an expiration date, so be sure to check that information before you plan your trip.
Q: How do I access a pass I purchased online on my mobile phone?
Once you purchase your pass, a message will be sent to your phone and prompt you to add your pass to your home screen. An identical message will also be sent to your email address. All passes are available immediately with no app download required.
